Informed Adolescence

Middle School Curriculum with Lessons on Teen Resilience, Sexual Health, and Boundary Setting

Heidi J. Sproull

INFORMED ADOLESCENCE is a comprehensive middle-school curriculum comprising age appropriate lessons on teen resilience, sexual health, and boundary setting. The lessons are affirming of intersectional identities, include suggested scripted language for teachers and outlines for interactive discussions, and are designed to support adolescents as they lean into this stage of development, minimizing their vulnerability to harm, confusion, and misinformation.

The sequential content supports students in developing awareness and skills around friendship and community, emotional health, relationship capacity, values and judgement, communication clarity, consent, sexual health knowledge, body autonomy, and personal safety. This curriculum is specifically designed to provide content for teachers, social workers, and others to meet middle school children “where they are” without overwhelming students with “too much, too fast, or too soon.” Students develop an expanding lens through which to understand their world.
