Parent & Kids Boundary Setting and Personal Safety Class - The Mix Studios, Ypsi

  • The Mix Studios 332 Harriet St Ypsilanti, MI 48197 (map)

2 Sundays 12:30-2:30pm

April 6th & April 13th

Cost:$100 for the parent child pair plus $50 for each additional person from same household..

While no parent wants to consider that their child is vulnerable to abuse and harm, statistics indicate that 1 out of 9 children (rates are higher for girls than boys) are targeted for sexual abuse (RAINN). Children are most vulnerable to abuse perpetrated by someone known to the child. This 4-hour (two sessions) all-gender parent/child boundary setting, and personal safety workshop will provide you and your child an opportunity to talk calmly, and in a supportive environment with other parents and children, about the risk of violence, and to learn skills for self defense and getting help.

This workshop will include basic, sensitively presented information about:

Mental preparedness: Understanding what, “uh oh” feelings are, (trusting myself) and knowing I have a right to my own body, and that it’s ok to tell adults and older children “NO!”

Verbal assertiveness: Learning what to say and how to say it in order to make ourselves heard.

Physical self defense: We will actively practice simple physical skills and self defense strategies specifically chosen for use by smaller people against a larger, stronger attacker.

I’m glad you are interested in a class on self-defense and personal safety!
